6th Annual Men’s Conference
May 19-20, 2017
IRON SHARPENS IRON Conference
The 6th year of this annual conference will be hosted once again at Hickman Community Church. Our theme for this year will be “REFORMED” as we celebrate 500 years since Martin Luther was widely acknowledged to have started the Reformation with his 1517 work The Ninety-Five Theses.
Our keynote speaker has elected to teach through 3 of Reformed Theology’s 5 Solas. Each sermon begins with a historical prologue and moves into an exposition of the texts on which the particular Sola was founded.
- Sola Gratia (Grace Alone) with a historical prologue about Martin Luther
- Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) with a historical prologue about Arch Bishop Cranmer
- Soli Deo Gloria (Glory to God Alone) with a historical prologue John Calvin
Andy Woodfield, Senior Pastor at Hickman Community Church, will be concluding the conference with Sola Fide (Faith Alone).
Capping the weekend, Jack will be back to preach on Solus Christus (Christ Alone) during Sunday morning service with the saints of Hickman Community Church.
Our 2017 keynote speaker will be Dr. Jack Hughes from Louisville, Kentucky.
Jack grew up in Idaho and met his wife, Lisa, at Boise State University. He attended The Master’s Seminary and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Westminster Theological Seminary as well. Dr. Jack Hughes
I was born and raised “down under” in the beautiful country of New Zealand. I grew up on the family farm and trained primarily as a shepherd of sheep. Growing up in a Christian family, I rejected the Bible’s message of salvation through Jesus Christ alone, believing that I was able to stand on my own two feet without any help from God. However, by God’s grace, at 18 years of age I was dramatically saved from a lifestyle of absolute hopelessness.
Six years after coming to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, I was called to full-time Christian ministry. This has included three years studying and serving at “This is Life Ministries”, an evangelistic Christian ministry; five years as a youth pastor at Havelock North Bible Chapel; six years as a Church planter and pastor of Grace Family Fellowship; and more recently, four years at The Master’s Seminary and Grace Community Church to complete the Master of Divinity program.
I thank God for bringing me to Hickman Community Church in 2007. I love the people here, and find my greatest joy in teaching God’s Word to open hearts. My passion in pastoral ministry is to know God and make Him known through the accurate exposition of the Bible which is God’s holy inspired Word to mankind!
I serve God with my dearest friend and wife, Barby, whit whom I have three incredible children, one son-in law, one daughter-in law and four wonderful grandchildren, Whitaker, Thaddeus, Rosemarie and Epaphras (Rusty for short).
The Sufficiency of Scripture and the Man of God
Harvest Bible Fellowship – Modesto
I have been experiencing the grace of God since my birth to an unwed teenage mother. I was adopted into a Baptist family which exposed me to Christ at a young age. However, I was raised in a divorced family and was instilled with a deep anger which ensnared my life until the age of 18 when a faithful friend shared the gospel while challenging my hypocrisy of being a youth leader in the local church while living a worldly life.
This friend and I read A.W. Pinks “Exposition of the Sermon on the Mount”. Jesus conquered my rebellious heart through the section on the beatitudes where I came face to face with the reality of my sin and the power of forgiveness. I yielded my life by faith to the Lordship of Christ and became His disciple by His grace.
14 years of marriage and 3 boys later I am profoundly humble to serve as a minister of the gospel as Pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel Modesto. Our church was planted 3 years ago with the mission to ” Glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission.”
It’s my passion to mature Great Commission men. ISI has been doing that for over half a decade and it’s my privilege to serve you at this conference.
The Inspiration of Scripture and the Man of God
First Baptist Church – Weaverville
Jay grew up in Hayward, California, attended a performing arts high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota and then moved to Los Angeles in 1986 to pursue a career in the entertainment industry as an actor. For over 20 years the Lord allowed him to make a living this way before calling him to full-time gospel ministry. While attending Calvary Bible Church in Burbank, the Lord graciously saved both he and his wife Julie in 1995. He attended the Master’s Seminary from 2003-2007 before accepting a full time position as pastor/teacher at First Baptist Church of Weaverville in the beautiful Trinity Alps of northern California.
His desire as a pastor is to preach the Word (2 Tim. 4:2) and shepherd God’s people, helping to equip them for the work of service (Eph. 4:12); “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:18);” that they may be found “complete in Christ (Col. 1:28)” and that their desire would be to “make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…(Matt. 28:19-20).” Yes, the challenges of ministry are many, but the eternal joys are incomparable.
He and His wife Julie have 6 children ranging in age from 4-18 along with a menagerie of dogs, cats, birds and fish. Jay enjoys spending time with his family, and when given the opportunity, fly-fishing and appearing in the odd Christian film such as No Greater Love and Billy Graham’s Road to Redemption.
